DroidDeck 0.5.0 is out today, October 18, 2026, and this is a bigger update than the jump to 0.4.0.
For some, the headline might be the addition of SteamVR support for Meta Quest headsets. However, VR has never been my thing. Something about my equilibrium getting thrown off, leading to the spins and eventually vomiting. Yeah, it’s not for me, but I’m happy for those who enjoy it. The update also adds support for XR glasses, Epic Games Launcher integration, and an optional x86-64 Steam client.
For my coverage and gaming tastes, I’m more interested in the improvements that affect my experience on Android handhelds. I was happy to see updates addressing smoother frame pacing, lower memory usage, better game compatibility, and GPU driver management. Check out the handy table below for the specifics.
What mattered most to me was whether any of these improvements made a difference in the games I’ve been playing, or whether anything broke along the way. These tests below were performed on my AYN Thor Max.
Well, I have some good news. My beloved Geometry Wars Evolved is finally playable at a buttery-smooth 120 FPS! Hold my calls. I’ll be busy for the foreseeable future.
Unfortunately, the Wirehawk demo still won’t launch through DroidDeck, although it runs without issue on Steam Deck. Whether that’s a game compatibility issue or something specific to DroidDeck remains to be seen.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse still fluctuates between the mid-30s and low-50s FPS, while Blood Dungeon remains a solid experience at 60 FPS. Newer games like ERLIK and Warhammer Survivors also perform well, reaching close to 120 FPS.
Most importantly, nothing I’ve been playing regularly appears to have broken with this update, which is always a good sign.
DroidDeck continues to make me happy by offering a relatively seamless way to play my Steam games across various Android handhelds.
