The updates keep coming, and I’m here for it!
spruceOS 4.5.4 was released just the other day, and there are some meaningful updates to share with you all.
Support for additional MagicX handhelds continues to progress following the 4.5.0 release. The team is working toward support for the MagicX Zero 28, Zero 40, and XU20, although it’s not yet considered stable. Eager to lend a hand? Get in touch with the developers, as they’re looking for testers.
Come to find out, people really love their RetroAchievements! With this release, the team has added additional controls for cached games, pending achievements, and offline libraries.
The Cheevos app also received a new interface for viewing and managing RetroAchievements directly on supported handhelds. These changes build on the offline achievement functionality introduced in 4.5.0.
Elsewhere, DSperate 3.0.3 brings graphical fixes for Nintendo DS emulation, while USB audio support adds another useful option for compatible headsets and DACs.
| GameTank | Standalone emulator is now the default on most supported devices. |
| Box Art | Improvements to game artwork management. |
| Brick / Brick Pro | Additional performance improvements. |
| General Fixes | Various sleep, audio, and controller fixes. |
I continue to enjoy gaming on the TrimUI Brick Hammer using spruceOS. I’ve yet to install it on anything else, but soon enough it’ll be time to cover a MagicX device for my Handheld of the Month series. Hopefully, by then, development will have reached a stable release, and I can document the installation process as part of that coverage.
