Raging Blasters 2 Demo Now Available on Steam

Japanese indie developer TERARIN GAMES has released a playable demo for Raging Blasters 2 on Steam, giving shmup fans an early opportunity to check out the sequel ahead of its planned 2027 release.

In the past, I’ve played the original Raging Blasters, as well as Blaze of Storm. So when I noticed that the Raging Blasters 2 demo had dropped on Steam, I was ready to give it a go, especially with all my DroidDeck testing of late.

I’m happy to report that the demo plays great via DroidDeck on the AYN Thor. I really enjoyed the additions planned for the sequel. Overall, it feels like a more polished and vibrant experience than the previous games I’ve played from TERARIN GAMES.

For those unfamiliar with TERARIN GAMES, it’s the work of solo developer Junichi Terayama, who has built a catalog of arcade-style shoot ’em ups. His previous games include Moon Dancer, Terra Flame, Crystal Breaker, Missile Dancer 2, and the more recent Blaze of Storm. If you’re a fan of old-school shooters, I think it’s a catalog worth checking out.

The Raging Blasters 2 demo includes the first two stages of Arcade Mode, along with Caravan Mode and Training Mode. Yeah, I spent a few minutes in Training Mode. What of it? It was for research purposes.

One of the sequel’s biggest additions is the FUSION system, which allows two ships to combine their firepower to destroy enemy bullets and push back incoming lasers. I’ll admit that while I enjoyed the FUSION system and the sheer destructive power it possesses, I actually preferred the chaos of blasting enemies alongside the automated support ship. It felt more bombastic, colorful, and challenging than simply laying waste to everything with combined firepower.

The full game is expected to feature eight stages, three selectable pilots, and online leaderboards, along with both original and chiptune soundtrack arrangements.

Raging Blasters 2 is currently targeting a Q1 2027 release on Steam and Nintendo Switch. In the meantime, the free demo is available on Steam for anyone interested in getting an early look at what TERARIN GAMES has been cooking up.
