Retroid teases the Retroid Pocket Duo

Update: September 8, 2026 – 10:45 AM EDT Good morning and welcome to Retroid’s “slow drip” of news around the Retroid Pocket Duo. What did we learn today class?

Well, it’s been revealed that the Pocket Duo will be powered by Qualcomm’s Dragonwing Q-7790. I know it’s early but that’s not an educated guess either. See the screenshot below! This means it’s probably true.

The Retroid Pocket 6 had the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, but this time Retroid has decided on using an IoT-focused processor that will natively support multi-display, which seems like an ideal fit for their new dual-screen handheld. Now that we’ve seen two images, we can deduce that at least two colors have been confirmed. We’ve been shown a standard black version and now a translucent purple. What colors will be revealed next?

We’ll be updating as more details emerge.

Update: September 7, 2026 – 10:20 PM EDT Retroid released another teaser image for the Pocket Duo, giving us a first real glimpse at the upcoming dual-screen handheld. The new image has been added below.

Original: Thanks to devices like the AYN Thor, and to a lesser extent the Anbernic RG DS, dual-screen handheld devices are all the rage these days. If you head over to eBay to try to acquire a used Nintendo 3DS, prices in some cases are close to $169.99, which was the price Nintendo was selling the system for back in August 2011 following its $80 price reduction.

Earlier today, Retroid, who is no stranger to releasing its own single-screen clamshell handhelds, teased the Retroid Pocket Duo on its social media channels and Discord. No further details have been released beyond the teaser video and accompanying quote.

Many have speculated that Retroid and AYN are sister companies, so it should perhaps come as no surprise that Retroid is now coming out with a dual-screen device of its own.

It will be interesting to see what Retroid has up its sleeve with this release. Its most recent release was the well-received Retroid Pocket Nova, preceded by the Retroid Pocket 6. Both have been reviewed favorably by critics and end users.

So, will the Retroid Pocket Duo continue that successful trend? Should we expect two AMOLED screens? Will Retroid have its own software that can compete with the AYN Launcher, or will the community need to rely on custom firmware to achieve parity with the Thor?

We’ll be eagerly awaiting more details in the coming days, especially after seeing how poorly the handheld community has reacted to Anbernic’s RG DS Plus announcement.

Or is it the RG DS Minus?
