spruceOS v4.4.0 released today

Update: September 12, 2026 – Hotfix v4.4.1 was released a short time ago. This fix addresses several issues reported by the community.

This patch fixes the following: DSperate on the Miyoo Flip, Tandy CoCo support, restores missing Jaguar theme icons, adds J2ME support through Game Nursery, and makes incremental OTA updates available to users on the Stable release path.

With the exceeding clip we’re seeing updates come out for emulators and CFW, it’s easy to lose sight that there are real humans behind some of these projects. As I was reading their release notes, I was struck by the authenticity of one of their members who made this introductory post about the release. Therefore, I wanted to share it:

OK everybody this is a fairly big release and has a ton of changes so hold on to your butts! We have been busy smashing bugs, adding features, cleaning stuff up and adding new devices. It has been a ton of work, a lot of fun, and has seen new team members join in on the project. Spruce has really grown since it began and I am just so happy to be a part of it!

As of this writing, my update/install is still in progress after thirty minutes. I’m attempting to update my TrimUI Brick Hammer. If you look at the highlights table below, you’ll see a call for “Incremental OTA Updates”. It sounds like subsequent updates will be faster since we’ll no longer be required to download a complete image.

For those new to this cfw, spruceOS started out being closely associated with the Miyoo A30. With the 4.x releases, the OS started support for multi-devices: Miyoo and TrimUI. The 4.4.0 release now brings stable Anbernic H700 support.

As shown below in the Devices table, this dramatically increases the number of devices spruce supports.

With the addition of RGB30 + MiniLoong Pocket 1, even though experimental, suggests spruce is deliberately taking steps to become a cross-manufacturer CFW platform.
