Life can be full of regrets, and like many, I have my fair share. As a kid, I had quite the He-Man collection. One might even call it serious. I played the shit out of He-Man.
However, as a pre-teen, my love of toys shifted to sports and then music. When I heard Black Sabbath for the first time, my life took an entirely different course. No longer could I be saddled with toys in my room, so I gave my entire stash away to the next-door neighbor’s kid.
Many would say what a nice gesture that was, and surely those toys from the ’80s wouldn’t have survived all my moves over the years. But damn, it’s a regret that sticks with me to this day.
Forty-something years later, I may not have those toys anymore, but apparently I’m still a sucker for He-Man. I recently watched the new He-Man movie, and it was OK, but it didn’t blow me away.
One thing I’ll never understand, mostly because I’m not the one writing the checks, is why He-Man can’t get The Witcher game-like treatment. Or why doesn’t G.I. Joe get a legitimate action game in the vein of a Call of Duty campaign, back when those were good? Imagine Insomniac or Crytek getting their hands on the G.I. Joe franchise.
Wait, this is a He-Man article, and I’ve veered way off course.
Ok, back to the story at hand. He-Man is returning to our gaming device of choice on February 4, 2027. This latest game in the franchise is a side-scrolling beat ’em up from Bitmap Bureau, developed in collaboration with Mattel. Limited Run Games and Clear River Games are handling publishing and distribution. The title is officially called He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction.
The game will be available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, with a digital price of $29.99. Physical pre-orders opened October 12, 2026.
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction will follow He-Man and his allies as they attempt to stop Skeletor and Evil-Lyn from using an ancient artifact to plunge Eternia into darkness.
I was somewhat disappointed to hear that the only playable characters are He-Man, Teela and Man-At-Arms. Though, She-Ra will be unlockable for subsequent playthroughs. Battle Cat will be available as a rideable companion. This means no Fisto, Man-E-Faces, and others.
There are 13 stages featuring locations such as the Royal Palace, Vine Jungle and Snake Mountain. Enemies will include Skeletor, Beast Man, Trap Jaw, Evil-Lyn, and Shokoti.
Limited Run Games is offering Standard, Classic and Collector’s Editions for Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. The Collector’s Edition includes a miniature Power Sword, lunchbox, steelcase, pins, acrylic standee and comic book.
